Embrace your crazy.

Rules of blogging? Never take a bad picture, don't show how horribly unclean your house is, and always make things seem better than they truly are.

You know what we say? Break the rules, break 'em all.
Be you, show off that messy apartment, and take ridiculous pictures for the world to see.

After our day date at the salon, Erin and I were taking actual head shots for our "professional profiles"....

and things got a little out of hand, and instead of deleting them all, we decided to embrace the crazy!

Blogging is hard to do, sometimes. We (especially as women) tend to belittle ourselves, and compare ourselves to every other woman out there...
"but she has a better house than me..."
"but her hair is longer than mine..."
"she's so crafty, she's so pretty...."
"and that body!? How does she find the time to stay so fit?!"

Guess what? Girlfriend isn't perfect either. That same blogger, friend, or co-worker that you find yourself comparing yourself too, she's got issues of her own. She's got insecurities of her own. Guess what? She might even compare herself to YOU.

One of my favorite quotes is; "don't compare your diary, to someone else's high light reel"

Erin and I want this to serve as a reminder that not every picture is perfect...not every apartment is decked out in Anthropologie, and not every marriage is as perfect as social media makes it seem. We live life, and keep it real. We're silly, we make ugly faces, and our lives are not perfect, but we're going with it. We invite you to show us your crazy, too. Come on...don't leave us looking like the only ones ;)

How about we take this weekend to uplift each other? I encourage you to let go of your insecurities, and love those crazy pictures of yourself, show em off... give yourself a good laugh :)
Happy Friday!

  1. Love both of your posts today! You're absolutely right. Sometimes I look around my house that never seems to be clean even when I DO clean it, and feel like a failure...but then I remember it's not spotless (or let's be real, even close to clean) because I'm busy living my life! It's definitely important to take a step back sometimes. Have a great weekend! :)

  2. Hahaha love the pictures here. Maybe there ought to be a blogger ridiculous face linkup! I was working on a cupcake recipe that I posted a few weeks ago (Crème Brulee cupcakes, yum!) and as I was trying to make my display of ingredients not look like a disaster, I embraced the disaster. And I posted the disaster picture. Right there for everyone to see.

Seriously, I blog in large part to document my life as it is. I try to put my best foot forward (because after all, I'm putting myself out there for the entire world to see and judge), but my life is messy!

  4. I love this post and I love your pictures! I know some of my favorite posts on blogs are when the people writing them show you that they are human also.

  8. This post came at the perfect moment for me! Thank you so much Kayla! I have been comparing myself all week to 2 friends of mine that we are going on vacation with this summer. Both are a little taller than me, super skinny, in shape, and appear to have it all together. I have been down all week thinking how am I supposed to get out on the beach with them? I don't have the cute clothes like them! Etc, etc. etc. Really, thank you for this!

  10. Ya'll are the cutest and silliest. Seriously, no one is perfect! I like when people show the mess and the outtakes. The ones of kids crying are the best. Is that mean?! haha Now I need to go find some outtakes to post!

  14. I love this post! It's such a good reminder. I was never one to get too caught up in social media envy and comparisons until I started blogging. It's really tough to resist being sucked in... That quote is fantastic. Also, for the record, your silly faces are still extremely cute!
