Travel spots in our country! Help!

Ahh dreaming about travel. I could literally do it all day. Remember my post on our top destination spots around the globe? I always seem get so caught up in all the gorgeous places all over the world I want to see, start making lists and pinning crazy spots that probably don't even exist. That's when I remind myself that our country has TONS of beautiful, unknown places, we just have to explore them for ourselves!! So where do we want to travel within our very own country?

Boston. This was Caleb's first answer. He really wants to see Fenway Park. He says he wants us to go to a game (eat a ton of food), and see Boston's stadium. Sounds like the perfect weekend to me!

Disney World. As obsessive as Caleb and I are about Disney (we pretty much buy every new DVD/Blu Ray movie the day it comes out), its crazy we've never been. Well, I've been once...but for about 4 hours in the 99 degree heat at an insanely busy time of year, so to say we missed out on a lot is a complete understatement. I can't wait to go with Caleb one day and experience it all!!

Hollywood. Seeing the sign, the sites, etc. It just seems like a foreign land to us, and it would be a blast to spend a few days riding California's coast with my husband! I'm talking like a REAL road trip. Not having a real plan, booking hotels as we go, eating cheez-its for breakfast in the car with the windows down, and stopping at every beach we can possibly find to dip our toes in!!

Nantucket. Caleb and I are suckers for a small beach, harbor, lighthouse (maybe that's why we love Hilton Head so much?!). I could look at Google images of this little "island" all day!

Hamilton Pool. It says its in Austin, TX. Seriously this place looks INCREDIBLE! I know a few of my readers are from Texas...ladies, PLEASE tell me you've been before??!

Wonder Tower, Colorado. We had some friends visit there a couple years ago...and sadly, the man who owned it passed away in 2013, and it looks closed down now. Although its still standing! So, to me, that means its still able to be visited, or at least seen! They said you could see 5 states from the top of that tower. It was filled with random jars, odds and ends, and essentially anything awesome you'd ever find in an antique shop...and it was filled by an adorable old couple.

Also on our list?
Chicago, Washington DC, Maine (they have pretty lighthouses), Napa Valley, San Fransisco, and really any National Park in the West!

So this is where I need your help! Please tell me - is there a spot you've been to in the US that was just an awesome experience?! If so, I seriously want to hear about it (Caleb and I are building our USA travel list, that yes, will take a lifetime to complete)! We have such a beautiful country, and I just want to explore it! Oh debt, why do you exist?! ;)

  1. You MUST go to Boston. I mean I'm kind of partial since we got engaged at Fenway, but it's still a pretty awesome city!!

And DC! YES!!!! Again, biased party of 1 over here :)

Love all these ideas and now I have even more reason to dream of going to Austin one day!

  2. These places look amazing! I'm a huge Disney fanatic so I try to go every chance I get. Found your blog and just thought it was adorable! Happy Wednesday :)

  3. Chicago and DC are amazing. And Napa Valley is on our list too. As soon as this baby is out and I am back in the travel game, that is where we're planning to go!

  4. There's a lot to see and do in Austin- hiking biking and lots of natural beauty and fun places to eat. I also recommend boston and of course DALLAS

  5. Hi Kayla! I'm a new follower of your blog and just had to jump into this conversation :) Nantucket is amazing! My husband and I just got married there this year, and his mother and sister are year-round residents so we are extremely lucky to get there a few times a year. The picture you posted is Brant Point Lighthouse which is where we did our first look! I'd have to recommend going towards the off-season to get more of a calm, authentic experience. Also, Yosemite is a place we visited last year and is easily the most beautiful place I've been in my life!

I really enjoy your positive, fun energy. Take care!

  6. Aw man. Lighthouses are my favorite, so I'm partial to Maine. Nantucket is beautiful and possibly the most romantic place I've ever been to. I've never been to Disney either... that's next on our list! And Boston is SO well worth it. I would do a day or two in Boston and then a few more days in Nantucket. =)

  7. You guys will love Boston!! I visited there for a day and had a blast! I'm hoping to go there for a weekend again soon!

DC - YOU MUST COME! :)

I went to California in high school and that pacific coast highway is seriously awesome. Nothing like driving next to the ocean for hours and hours :)

  8. Haha my first thought was "BOSTON!!!"...then I scrolled down ;) My favorite thing we've done in the U.S. is road trip for 2 weeks up and down the east coast. Our friends invited us to spend a few days in New Hampshire with them, and we love baseball so we went to 6 different ballparks and spent a day or 2 in each city (DC, Baltimore, New York x 2, Boston, Philadelphia) along the way. We loved Boston so much we went out of our way to go back on that same trip. We even seriously considered moving there. We're both dying to go to the west coast and do the road trip thing there! Chicago is on our list as well. D.C. is pretty cool if you'e never been. We both went a few times in school but I'd like to go back as an adult.

  9. Maine is absolutely beautiful... there is so much beauty to see here, I don't think people realize how amazing it is! You could totally take one (longish) trip and do Maine, Boston (Fenway is one of my favorite places on the planet!) and then go to Nantucket... all amazing places!!

  10. DC is a must!! I lived there one summer and I just love it so much. DC and Boston are top on our list right now. But also Maine...and Chicago. And oh man, now you've got the travel bug biting me!! ;) We're going to Cali this summer and it's so hard to narrow down what we want to do! Why don't vacations last an unlimited amount of time?!

  11. Boston is on my list of places to go too!!! I LOVE Austin TX, its such an amazing city with tons of weird stuff to do! And CA is a must! I did a 7 day trip there, starting in LA/Hollywood, where we were in the audience of the Ellen DeGeneres Show & Chelsea Lately show, and ending in San Diego. We took the train that goes along the coast and has amazing views! Such a fun trip!!

  12. Scottsdale, AZ is lovely and have really fun things to do around that area.
San Diego is a great Cali town!
And then there's my homestate, the joy of my heart-Pennsylvania! From Lancaster (where I live!!) where you can experience AMAZING food and culture and then see rolling hills of Amish farmlands, to Philadelphia which is packed with history and flavor and some amazing sites, PA is the place to be!

  13. I would love to take Josh to Disney because he's never been! AND I read that they actually accommodate families now where one parent can wait in line and go on a ride with a child and then when they get off, the parent that was waiting with the baby can go on the ride without having to wait in line again. Kinda cool, if you ask me. But, besides the point! One place we love is Gatlinburg, TN. I know people say it's like the Myrtle Beach of the mountains, but we always get a super cute cabin in the mountains. There is Dollywood, her water park, and downtown Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Plus you can go white water rafting. I just told my family we need to plan a trip to go back!

  14. DC is a must!!!!! <- I cannot stress that enough! After living there for summer I am obsessed. I'm going again this summer and I cannot wait to hit all my favorite spots. Also, Austin, TX is a wonderful city. Great music scene and the food is out of this world.

For a more adventurous trip I suggest Glacier National Park in Montana. I have had so many friends go and say it's so amazing. We're actually planning a trip there for next summer.

In the south I say New Orleans, Savannah and Charleston are musts. For a mountain getaway Asheville, NC is at the top of my list.

We are trying to plan so many getaways in the US because we always tend to dream of foreign places. Oregon is at the top of our list of places to visit.

  15. I live in Austin but haven't been to Hamilton Pool before. Maybe we'll go this weekend! I will definitely keep you posted. Then you can come visit!!!!

  16. Philly! The liberty bell and history duh ;) Also our baseball park aint so bad :) But I truly recommend Fenway/Boston.. SO much to see and do!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I say Hollywood...I actually would suggest San Diego instead of LA because the atmosphere, people and all around vibe are a little more low key. SD is one of our favorite spots in all of SoCal. :D

  18. You have to go to Sedona, AZ. It's absolutely gorgeous and probably one of my favorite vacations ever.

  19. Boston is seriously my favorite city on the East coast…I've never traveled to the West but I go to Boston over, and over again. Fenway is incredible, the history of the town is amazing and the food is second to none! It has a big city feel but it's just homey as well!

  20. Everything out west has been calling our name lately- seeing all the national parks, scenic views, incredible mountains!!

But obviously I vote disney ALWAYS and FOREVER.

  21. You and Erin are SIL and you have been to Disney? I'm shocked she's let that happened ;)

I think you should add St. Louis to your list and make sure to visit this national landmark:

  22. Okay I'm EXTREMELY biased because I did the Disney College Program, but honestly you need to go! If you could go during a slow season that would be the best. I could give you lots of tips(and I know Erin could too!). Disney is my #1 choice for you all, BUT the east coast and Boston have been calling my name. Also, you can never go wrong with California, DC or Chicago.

  23. i would side with Caleb and say Boston and partially because I have never been there and I think there would be so much you can do and experience historically. hollywood, eh not so much and that is from someone who lives in southern california

  24. Blogger is going crazy...not sure if my last comment posted...so....YES, Hamilton Pool is amazing, BUT not quite like that photo! Ha!! Austin has so much to offer...I would die if you guys came!! Also, Tahoe is gorg....one of our most favorite vacations!!

  25. Savannah, Georgia! The squares are beautiful! Walking down the stone road along the river is amazing! You can take your adult beverage out on River Street too! So many restaurants and fun things to take in while you are there. Everything has been kept so nice. Oh, and if you go you have to visit Molly McPherson's Scottish Pub! Best shepherd's pie ever!!!! And it is only a short drive to Hilton Head or Tybee Island from there for the beach :)

  26. Ummmmm hello, what about the most beautiful beaches in the US, right here in South Alabama/Northwest Florida??

I've been to the pools in Austin when I used to live in Tx, it was several years ago and I was pretty young, but they were so pretty! And the hot springs!

  27. Everything on your list is spot-on. I desperately want to go to Boston and San Francisco! Hollywood is cool, but all the other cities around there are better. I am so disappointed by downtown LA every time I go. It's like a desolate, trashy, tourist trap. Ugh. Maybe on your way to awesome Chicago, you should stop in Indianapolis for lunch. JUST SAYING. I would definitely add New Orleans to this list. I'm not a huger partier or drinker, but the city is too unique to miss. The architecture, the music, the food, the vibe. It's killer.

  28. Yellowstone is AMAZING. A definite must see!

  29. I definitely just read every single comment to add places to my own list! San Antonio is also a great place - the River Walk is so fun! Chicago and San Fran are definite musts! Chicago is at the top of my list right now - hope to make it there within the next year. A friend from school has been living in San Fran for a couple years and I always planned to visit but just found out her husband and her are selling everything and packing up and moving to Australia. Good for them, sad for me and my plans to visit :( LOL

  30. my vote is disney world (depending on when you get to go) but we just got back and it was awesome :)

  31. Hamilton pool looks amazing!!!!! Wow!!!

And all the national parks are great places!

  32. You HAVE to come see Oregon. We live on the Oregon Coast and it's beautiful (plus, we have lighthouses)! My favorite spot on the coast is Cape Perpetua...there is a lighthouse 10 min south and another one 20 min north of it.

Also, while you're in Oregon, check out Crater Lake.

  33. I've been to Boston (only for two days) and LOVED IT!! If you go to Boston, you'll have to do a tour of Fenway!! We just went to Virginia Beach and Washington, DC. DC was amazing-definitely spend more than two days there (and wear comfy shoes!!). Been to Disney World a million times-no shame here! :)

Chicago is one of my favorite places, too! Oh and Nashville!!

I wish I could sell you on coming to visit Indiana but um...we have corn fields? ;)

  34. Love lighthouses! I am finally going on Dom's big family/friend vacation week in Montauk, NY this summer (family tradition for generations...no girlfriends/boyfriends allowed, only fiancee and spouses!) It is in East Hampton and full of nautical, coastal things and has a gorgeous lighthouse. You definitely have to add that to your list!

Also, you need to come visit me and go to Siesta Key Beach! It's rated the #1 Beach in the USA :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Awesome list! My husband and I want to travel around our country too! One place that was really fun was down in Chattanooga TN called Ruby Falls and Look-Out Mountain. We went down there for a long weekend and it was so cool. Ruby Falls is an underground waterfall! And on Look-Out Mountain at the highest point you can see 7 states at one time. Definitely a great place to visit!!
