Making time for me

I love my husband dearly...I really do...but there are times when I just need to get away and do my own thing for about 30 minutes or so. I've always been that way. I LOVE community, I love my friends and family, I love being surrounded by awesome people....but sometimes I just want to spend time with myself. I think its good for the soul. Maybe you're like me, or maybe you think I'm crazy. But here are just a few things I do to get my 'me time' in...

Running.
Sure, its work...but exercise is seriously therapeutic for me. It's just me, my playlist, and my thoughts. I've sorted through lots of ideas/priorities in my head on my long runs lately and have LOVED how refreshed I feel once its over. I don't always love the actual exercise, but I never regret it once its over.

Getting my hair done.
I know this requires an appointment most of the time, but there's nothing like spending an hour or two girl talking with your stylist and getting your hair played with. Bonus points when you leave feeling like a million bucks!!

A bubble bath.
I LOVE taking a 20 minute bubble bath. There is something SO relaxing about it. I put on some Hillsong Live and throw some lavender bath salts up in there, and I'm good.

Popping in a classic feel-good, funny movie.
Hello Pitch Perfect. Nice to see you for the 17th time this year... :)

Being in the kitchen.
I think its so refreshing to pick a new recipe, follow it verbatim, and create something delicious for people you love (or even just for yourself!). My kitchen is definitely one of my happy places...if only it was bigger!

Reading.
I'm excited that Caleb and I are making a priority to read 30 minutes a night a few times a week to dive into the plot of our choice. Being able to curl up under a comfy blanket and do just that? Makes me one happy girl.

Writing.
Not even on my blog (though I do love doing that), I'm talking in a real journal. Pen to paper. Sometimes I just start writing down one thought, one memory, and next thing I know an hour has passed. It's so important to me to document my day to day thoughts. A lot of time, I look back just a few weeks and see how I've grown/learned from something. It's amazing.

Being a typical 20 something and browsing Pinterest/stalking Instagram
...because duh, I'm bored sometimes...and you all live beautiful lives.

I wish I could say "getting a massage", but that's never in my life happened. I hardly ever want to PAY for a mani/pedi, although I complain almost 24/7 about my ugly nails...so maybe I should finally treat myself soon. I should've also included "shopping" in the list, but Caleb and I hardly ever go out to actually purchase stuff and its more like "browsing", but sometimes, thats just as fun! What do you do to get in your me-time?!

  1. YESSS! I am the same exact way. I have to have "me time". I get a lot of it now that I don't live with two other girls and Matthew isn't in the same town lol but I definitely enjoy it for the most part!! I love watching a good chick flick every now and then when I am alone or catching up on blogs/social media and Pinterest! Great post!! :)

  2. I 100% agree with everything EXCEPT being in the kitchen! Cooking requires cleaning which requires dishes which I would gladly prefer to leave in the sink :-) :-) Glad to see you're getting some good "me" time in!

  3. Hair time is the best time! Just reading that part and imagining sitting in a chair getting my hair did makes me feel good and relaxed--ha!

  4. Reading! Yes! And exercising. Sometimes even just grabbing a coffee and driving around with good music on. I wouldn't survive without me-time, but I'm also a bit of a hermit. I just love it that way.

  5. Reading, cooking, watching stupid stuff on TV I know Jared would hate.... ;) Hopefully more manis/pedis in my future because there is seriously nothing more relaxing than that!

  6. I am the same way. I need just "ME" time. All of these things are on my list, except being in the kitchen...no thank you to that! I only cook because I have to. :) Loved this post, my friend.

  9. I love reading while on the treadmill. Ever since we moved, I don't have a gym anymore, but that was always one of my favorite, treasured me moments of the day. I still read and walk around, but not simultaneously. Getting excited for Pitch Perfect 2?!

  12. Me time is one reason that I love Josh's work schedule. Every 3rd day, I get the evening to myself after I put B to bed. I prefer vegging in front of the TV, lol. But when I don't have to stay home, definitely shopping. Even grocery shopping!

  15. All of these. ALLLLL of them. I love that you enjoy reading. So many people don't. They label themselves as being too cool for reading while I think they are super lame. I love reading. It's my jam.

Okay... enough about reading. It's great to hear that you have so much to love and enjoy.

  16. Me time? What is that? lol! I guess I get that when I get my hair done every 8-10 weeks :) Enjoy every last moment of me time before you have kiddos. While they are wonderful and so rewarding....me time is pretty much gone. By the end of the night when Xavier goes to bed I am so exhausted I go to bed too. No laundry, no tv watching, no working out. Just sleep. lol!

  17. I think I'm the only person in the world who hates baths, but seriously I HATE THEM. So much.
That said, pretty much all of yours would be on my list except getting my hair/nails done. But running for sure, and cooking is fun too :) Jordan and I read almost every night before bed, and I love it!

  18. Enjoy all the me time you can before kids. Haha. But for real, a bubble bath sounds glorious. I do get quite a bit of reading in as soon as Aiden goes to bed. It's definitely been my "me" time lately...that and trip to Target!

  19. I love me time! It's the best and I try to do it semi-frequently! You hit it with all the categories perfectly! Workout, beauty time, cooking, especially bubble bath.. love it all!

  20. YUP... bubble baths are the best. Although, I like my water to be super duper hot, to the point where my skin turns red. That's probably not good for me. I know it's def not good for the bebe inside me haha!

  21. I have so much "me time" living on my own and I love it! I have been itching to start writing with a pen to paper again. It's been way too long since that last happened. I'm actually thinking that jotting down some thoughts regarding the She Reads Truth bible studies would be a great place to start.
