A few months ago, I splurged and bought myself this book I found in a local bookstore.
If you know anything about me, its that I could waste an entire weekend in any type of bookstore and never get bored. Its so fun for me! Reading over 50 summary's on new books and writing down the titles, promising myself I'll read a few before the years end... well, lucky for me, this one required no reading.
It's a book that you fill in.
I'm sure many of you have heard about it, and I couldn't be happier that I bought it before a lot of huge life events started happening to me. Its called The Happiness Project, its a 5 year, one sentence a day journal. It has already been so fun to look back on from a few months ago, when I had no idea how my life was going to change so quickly.

Its like $15 and seriously -- how cute is it?!?!
At the top of every page, it gives you a quote. They are mostly motivational, happy, or just plain silly. I haven't found one that hasn't made me smile.
It sounds so easy, "oh, just write a sentence every day".... but let me tell you. It's hard! BTW - I know I've been updating you randomly on the status of my new years resolutions, so here goes it--
1. Flossing my teeth? Yes, every night before bed. Can you believe it?!? 24 nights in a row now. It blows my mind, too.
2. Insanity? Caleb and I started, and had to put it on a temporary hold due to his knee injury. He told me to keep going, but I started it with him, so I'd like to finish it with him also. Hopefully he is better before the weeks end!
3. Reading my Bible every day: YES! I am so proud of myself. I am doing a whole year bible plan and can happily say that every day before I go to bed, I take 20 minutes and read the passages that are given to me on my app, while taking notes, and really letting it all sink in. It truly is the perfect way to end my day, so I feel great when I wake up.
4. Eating healthy? I've been trying my hardest. So far so good, I just feel better when I do. I still let myself cheat every now and then (cause if I didn't, I'd go insane), but its going great so far. YAY for a hopeful lifestyle change!
So... how are your NY Resolutions holding up?? Looks like we made it past "Blue Monday"... which is apparently declared "the most depressing day of the year". How sickening, right? Who actually makes up a day like that.
Well, I am boycotting it. You should, too.
Stay happy, folks.

ReplyDeleteYou are so cute! Love that journal, I may just have to find me one!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great journal! I love the idea! And impressive that you've been able to stick to your resolutions so well! I started Insanity- two days in... it's definitely not easy :)
ReplyDeleteI love your happiness. really, i do. everytime i come by your blog i read with a smile on my face because you sound so, well..happy! lol. and way to go on your ny's resolutions!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks so much easier than my question a day for 5 years book! I did it in 2010 and haven't touched it since. So I need to pick this one up, me thinks.
ReplyDeleteThere is such a thing as blue monday?! Don't they know that Mondays already suck? We need a reason for them to be HAPPY, not sad!
That is such a great idea...a perfect way to capture memories that would otherwise be totally forgotten!!
ReplyDeleteAh! I kinda want one of these journals now!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI received a journal similar to this over a year ago and LOVE it. Only mine doesn't have the quotes...bummer!
ReplyDeleteIt's so neat to look back over time at your thoughts and emotions or just silly things ya did. :)
I've never heard of Blue Monday... ? Hmm.. Love this book! I used to journal full on everyday on word (computer) since age 15.. I stopped a few years ago and continually say i'll pick it back up!... It was my stress relief, but now I blog so kinda the same but not really!... May have to look into your book idea! totally adorable!
ReplyDeleteI have one of the journals! I haven't written in it in months, since we left Cambodia. I have a lot of catching up to do! I really like them. I gave one to everyone in my family so we could share our answers while I was away. My sister's kids said some pretty hilarious things.
ReplyDeleteWe could seriously be BFFs! I love bookstores and I own way too many books! I have a gratitude journal similar to this... I need to start writing in it!
ReplyDeleteSo I totally love just walking around Barnes & Noble, looking at all the books and writing down titles of books to get from the library! That journal looks amazing; it reminds me of a craft I found on Pinterest that I wanted to do, but never did (index cards in a berry box, same concept as the journal)! I totally want to buy this now!!! (:
ReplyDeleteLove this! I want one soooo bad! I picked it up last time I was at the book store but I put it back down :/ next time I'm for sure grabbing it!!
ReplyDeleteOh I want one! I've never seen this! Might be kinda fun to so something like that for the first year of marriage!
ReplyDeleteI love my 5 year journal! You're right it is very hard to some up the day in one sentence. Sometimes I squeeze in a few sentences :) I wish I could say I was doing as well as you on my resolutions.
ReplyDeleteerr.. "sum up" not "some up". Please excuse me, it's been a long day!
DeleteI love the little journal like that! I had one a few years ago that asked you random questions each day like "what color socks did you wear today?" or "what did you have to drink with your lunch?" It's fun to look back on all those tiny details of life!
ReplyDeleteAnd flossing my teeth everyday is one of my new years resolutions too!
- Carrie
i've heard a lot of good things about that book! and love the journal idea!
ReplyDeleteI thought about getting this book, but I haven't made the plunge yet. But every time I go into a bookstore I look at it and I'm more and more tempted to buy it!
ReplyDeleteI really love this! That will be so fun to go look back on years later :) "said yes to the dress..." awwwe! So sweet!
ReplyDeletexo
That is such a cute idea for a journal. And, it's do-able! Since there is only room for one sentence, you won't feel burdened by the need to fill a whole blank page every day.
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome! Okay, I need to get myself one of those things! Do you think I could find it online? Oh and P.S. you have the cutest handwriting ever girlie!
ReplyDeleteHi Kayla! I found your blog through Wifesessionals yesterday! I am looking forward to following along with your kind of yellow! I just started blogging here:http://lovelaughterhappyeverafter.blogspot.com :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! I found your blog through your January favorites link up over at Dancing with Ashley. This journal is awesome! I am definitely going to try and hunt this journal down...
