Our anniversary plans!!

Happy Friday. I knew this was going to be a great day from the moment my mom surprised us this morning with a heaping box of Holtman's Donuts. I love that woman! ;)

I mentioned very briefly yesterday that Caleb and I made the spontaneous decision to get away for our anniversary at the end of the month. Before I dive into that, HOW in the world is it almost my SECOND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY?! I feel like I was just wrapping jute around all the centerpieces, planning the introduction songs and ordering the cutest yellow flats I'd ever seen. But alas, here we are... preparing to celebrate our second anniversary. I'm so lucky I get to do life with that husband of mine.

Anyway... we were initially planning on staying local for our anniversary, as there's so much of our city that we still have yet to explore, but we ended up deciding we wanted to see a new city together. Somewhere within driving distance...nothing TOO expensive... so what did we come up with?
Two days in Pittsburgh!

I know, you might be thinking how can we even  GO to the Bengals rival city? ;) Well, I'm looking past their one flaw (the Steelers) to explore the beauty that they have to offer. We've heard amazing things about the city and there seems to be SO much to do and we won't be able to fit in everything, obviously...so this is where you come in!! If you've ever been, or are local, where should we eat? What should we do? We want your help!

In other news, I shot one of the best engagement shoots I think I've ever done last night, more on that to come next week, hopefully! I hope you guys have a great weekend!!!

  1. LOVE pittsburgh! One of my best friends lives there so I've spent many a long weekend. There's a super cool cider bar called Arsenal you should try - they have a gorgeous outdoor space. The Southside, you have to go there - lots of cool little restaurants and bars, some rooftop bars. And obviously, take the tram up to Mt. Washington. You'll have so much fun!

  4. never been to Pittsburgh (we hate their hockey team, which makes my husband weary of going.. hahah) but I hope you two have an amazing time! We just celebrated our second anniversary at the beginning of the month and we are also hoping for some time away.. No idea when it'll happen. Happy (almost) second anniversary!

  7. I've been to Pittsburgh once in my life and it was for my Dad's meetings as a kid and honestly all I remember is that the organizers of the meeting had us at a party at the Pirates game and that stadium was a blast. So maybe do that! Yay for 2nd anniversary already :)

  8. Ahhh I am so sad you didn't go when I was living there!! Definitely take the incline up mount washington. You get THE most incredible view of the city (it's actually probably the location of the picture you posted!) The southside is really fun, and station square! There are a bunch of restaurants right on the water. I personally vote for joes crab shack :) It's kind of silly but I would absolutely take a duck tour if you have the time! It's one of those tours that goes on land and water and it's really funny and you get to see all the sights. Have so much fun!

  10. PITTSBURGH is so fun!!! I second Lauren's comment about Southside - it's a long stretch of bars and restaurants including a Milkshake Factory! Plus lots of other cool stops. Also, if they're playing, a Pirates game would be really fun - that stadium is soooo incredible with the city skyline surrounding it along the river.

  11. Happy almost Anniversary! Isn't it crazy how fast time goes? Our 4 year anniversary was yesterday, and it feels like we got married yesterday. But at the same time it also feels like it's been 10 years. Have fun in Pittsburgh! I've never been there, but I've heard good things.

  19. I moved to Pittsburgh just over two years ago and we LOVE finding new things to explore/do. If you're into seeing some comedy shows, my favorite theater (I'm slightly biased) does shows Friday/Saturday night (arcadecomedytheater.com) I always love going up to Mt Washington and playing in Southside. The Strip District is fun too - open air markets, lots of tucked away restaurants and fantastic craft places (we bought fabric for curtains AND for my wedding dress there!). Even just walking around North Shore by the stadiums is fun. You two will have a blast!

  22. Aside from burn down Heinz Field? Kidding, of course. *cough* In all seriousness, I'm pretty much the world's biggest Pittsburgh Penguins fan, so I've made several trips there. Here are my suggestions: You must go up the Monongahela Incline to get a gorgeous view of the city. You should also try Primanti Brothers for their famous sandwiches with fries on them, but the one food place I HIGHLY recommend is a breakfast place in the Dormont neighborhood called Dor-Stop. It was absolutely delicious and on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! Can't wait to see your recap!
