One little rubber band.

Thank goodness, we are a day closer to Friday! I'm so excited for my weekend I can hardly stand it. In the mean time, I also have some fun birthday plans the next two nights...so to say I'm a busy bee this week is an understatement! Then I just remind myself, yes...this week is busy, but its full of amazing friends and there are so many memories to be made. I can't wait to let the festivities begin!!

{non awkward post transition}

A few weeks ago, Caleb challenged us to wear a thick rubber band around our wrists, and anytime we complained about something, we had to "snap" it. Yikes! I found myself at work, complaining about who knows what...its so cold, its so hot,  and just went about my day...then I got home and Caleb asked me the question.

"How many times did you snap yourself today??"...I hadn't. Shoot! How many times had I complained without even thinking twice about it? I swore to myself I'd pay more attention the next day.

It was insane that very next day when I became intentional about watching what I say, or even what I thought. I found myself about to say something rude about a co worker I didn't care for, or to simply complain about my car or the weather. It was insane how one little flick on the wrist changed my mindset.

What used to be "ugh I really don't like our loud, screaming, fighting neighbors" became "I need to pray for them tonight". What was "I'm so sick of Winter!!" became "at least I have a coat to keep me warm in this snow", & what was once "our apartment is SO not organized..." turned into "at least we have a loving home to live in".

I challenge you to take the next few days and try this out on yourself. Maybe you've done something like this before, how did you like it??

  1. Whose birthday is it? Yours? Your hubby's? Mine is tomorrow. Yay for March birthdays regardless!

  4. A few years ago, wearing a rubber band was the thing to do. I honestly don't remember why people were wearing them, could be the reason above, but I would see so many people with them on. I wear a hairband all the time, maybe I should start snapping it too ;)

  5. This is SUCH a fantastic idea! I really need to do this. Lately, I find myself really just complaining about everything and it's annoying and I know I shouldn't be!

  6. We did the thing where we wore an actual rubber band that said 'complaint free' on it, and every time you complained you had to switch wrists. Whew, I was changing mine back and forth CONSTANTLY! Definitely a great eye-opener!

  7. I love this idea. I might have to try it. I feel like this time of year is hard because everyone is sick of the cold weather, but it's definitely not something worth getting a negative attitude about.

  8. I love this! I did this once way back when, and I felt like I was snapping myself a million times a day.

  9. I did this one time way back when anytime I said or thought something ugly about someone. Great idea!

  10. Love this idea! While reading this I immediately thought it was something some of my old co-workers could have used. Wait, do I need to snap my wrist now? Oops. ;) Love that you and your husband challenge and inspire each other to always improve!

  11. I agree with Tracy - I love how you and Caleb are always inspiring each other!! This would definitely help open up my eyes and be better about having happier thoughts.

    Though this week I'm in a pretty great mood, can you wonder why?! :DDDD
