Monday night was a complete cluster. If I'm being honest, it was probably in the top 10 worst nights in my life. Let me just paint this picture for you.
I needed to hit up the ATM after work. Little did I know it was pouring down rain (in the middle of winter), and my go-to ATM didn't have a cover over it...so I'm literally getting drenched. My entire left arm, and my face are soaked...along with the inside of my door. This wasn't exactly the perfect time for the ATM to tell me it was temporarily disabled and would be running in a moment...I realize my car is acting a bit funny...my wipers are going at a slugs pace, and every light on my dashboard starts blinking.
What in the world is going on!?!
I decide its time to roll my window up while the ATM got its crap together...but oh, wait...my window WOULDN'T GO BACK UP. I make sure my car is in drive, and I hit the gas to get out of there. Except, she (she = my car) wasn't moving. At. All. I am freaking out. I'm in the middle of a road, with a window down, soaking wet...and my car won't move. Did I mention there is someone behind me waiting for the ATM who didn't even bother to see if I was alright? Yeah, I thought that was cool.....
FINALLY, after about 4 minutes, my car decides to get with it and actually drive. At this point I'm too terrified to take it on the highway, so it was only logical in my mind to drive in a circle and get to the drive thru part of the bank, where there was shelter :)
It was absolute fate that my car broke down under that shelter. I couldn't help it, I could feel the tears coming. I was stuck!! Luckily, my hero came to rescue me (aka my husband). We thought a simple charge would do it...nope, when he took the cables off my car, she died again.
He runs to the store, buys me a battery....all is well (except you know, I was FROZEN). Luckily I had a blanket and extra gloves in my backseat. When he got there, he installed the new battery...and my car turned on! She seemed to be working...but my battery light was still on? Although this confused me to no end, I still made the 30 minute drive home safely.
After dinner, Caleb decides he wants to take it for a quick ride to be sure its safe for me to drive to work and back...we hit up the store, had some fun, and on our way back...my car starts freaking out, AGAIN. There we are on the highway, headlights go out, radio stops working, lights on my dashboard are flickering...my car was slowly taking her last breath of the night.
Thank God it didn't break down on the highway, we managed to get her into our subdivision before she stopped in the middle of the road. Here came the hard part...it was 9PM, seriously so dark out...and Caleb and I had to push my car. I think we ended up pushing it a quarter mile, and my grandpa (bless his heart, he always comes to the rescue) came and called AAA so we could get a tow truck to take my car away.
All in all, the night was horrible, and my eyes were swollen. I mean really, who's car breaks down TWICE in one night?!
Once we got back home, my husband gave ma a "late Valentines Day" present... and bless that man. He knows me so well. We are obviously obsessed with Disney, and MU is one of our favorite movies. He bought me the entire plush set of the "Oozma Kappa" clan.
That man knows exactly how to make me smile...and I'm so grateful for him. Through the entire night, breakdown after breakdown (both the car, and me), he never complained. Literally, not once. I can't believe I got so lucky to not only have such an amazing man, he's hot, too! ;)
I hope that through the crappy Monday's in life, you have someone to make you smile...whether that be your significant other, best friend, or grandma. You are loved :)
Your Monday takes the cake for worst Monday!! :( So sorry to hear about your car but glad you're okay! And that you have Caleb!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate that for you friend. Nothing is more frustrating because there is nothing we can do to fix it besides fork up the money. Hopefully the rest of your days go a little more smoothly. I say a facetime date this weekend should happen to cheer us up. :) I'm still sending the devotional. Last night got busy on me. Love you!
ReplyDeleteWhy do car issues always seem to happen in the rain?? My car broke down last year in a serious torrential downpour- it was miserable to try to jump it in that crap and then sit in my car waiting for a tow truck. So no fun.
ReplyDeleteGlad Caleb was there to help you out! Husbands are the best like that!
The first day I was supposed to go back to work after I took bereavement...my car wouldnt start, so I had to call AAA for a new battery. Then...the first day I was supposed to go back after CV was in the hospital...my car wouldnt start AGAIN!!! Ugh, that time I had to get AAA to come tow my car to the repair shop!!! Talk about bad timing! Car issues are SO FRUSTRATING!! (And being super late for work because of car issues is super frustrating too!!)
ReplyDeleteThe good thing is...you will forget about this bad day once your car is fixed! :)
Oh no! What a rough night. I'm so sorry you dealt with all of that, but also glad you are surrounded by people who help you get through the crappy things. I hope everything is ok with your car - there's nothing worse than uncertainly with something you rely on every day!
ReplyDeleteWas it the alternator?? We had something so similar happen. We were waiting at a red light, and when we went to go, the car wouldn't move. It's a manual, so a cop helped my husband and I push start it, we went straight to walmart and bought a new battery, but later it started going crazy with electrical stuff and stranded us again, and then my husband figured out that he had to replace the alternator. Thankfully an alternator isn't too expensive and he knew how to do it himself!
ReplyDeleteCar trouble is no fun--hope the car gets fixed quickly!
Rachel, I thought the same thing! I have had my alternator die on me before. No fun! Kayla, I'm glad you're okay. I hate car expenses!
DeleteWhat a terrible, no good, very bad Monday. Boo! Glad you guys are ok, though. I think you handled yourself much better than I would have.
ReplyDeleteoh no Kayla, that's terrible girl. why do horrible things always happen on monday?! it's good that you had your hubby and grandpa there for you to help you and encourage you though!
ReplyDeleteYikes. Talk about a predicament! At least you were able to pull it out enough that it's in a position to be mended and revived. Don't fret. There are repair shops that can deal with that quickly and professionally.

Awwwww, boooo. :-( I hope you get her fixed soon... and that it doesn't cost too much money!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had the same thing happen to me. In the end it would have cost more to get the car fixed then getting a new one. I'm glad you are safe.

Oh no that sucks! At least you have such an amazing man to take care of you!!!:) I had car trubble Sunday night and was like what the heack am I going to do if I break down in the middle of no where?!!! Ahh! so I turned around and made it back to my parents, and my parents let me take one of their vihicles home for the week! AND they are going to get it into the mechanic for me too! Thank goodness for moms sand dads right?! If you don't have a man yet:)
ReplyDeleteUgh, now THAT'S a crappy Monday for sure. Thankful that you didn't breakdown anywhere unsafe. I would have bawled my eyes out, too.
ReplyDeleteUgggh! That is so stressful! Good thing you had such awesome people around. And I love how you and Erin both had Disney V-days!
ReplyDeleteOh no!!! I hope today was a thousand times better for you!
ReplyDeleteUgh! What is up with this winter and cars and weather?! It's just not cool. Glad your husband was so great during all of it and that you're okay. :)
ReplyDeleteoh no. car troubles are seriously the worst. but i'm glad you're okay and you guys didn't break down on the highway or anything dangerous! do you know what's wrong with your car yet?! hopefully it's something fixable and not too expensive!
ReplyDeleteOH Kayla!!!!!!! Oh no!!!! First off...I'm so mad that the person behind you didn't help you. UghhH!! Bless your heart....so glad Caleb was able to come help you. What a night, my friend. Hopefully you'll never have to relive that. And so glad you had the shelter while you waited and the super sweet gifts when you got home!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a terrible Monday! But oh, did you husband come to the rescue or what?! Sounds like he loves you a whole lot. :)

ReplyDeleteOh my, that was such an inconvenient day for you guys. I'm glad that your husband was able to help you on both occasions your car broke down. How is it now? Have you tried tightening the screw on the battery clamps? When loose even a little, gunk may form from the dirt collected and as a result may interfere with the conductivity. Take care, okay?

Sometimes, the statement "everything bad happens on a Monday" isn't just a joke for that dreaded start of the week. Good thing your husband was a trooper throughout the day. If you have time, better get your car checked, as while cars not starting usually means battery problems, it should have been resolved if there's a new one. Take care!

Wow! That's seems to have been quite an inconvenience indeed, having your car stop at the street with inadequate remedies on hand. Glad to know that you have at least gotten out of that bind, but it's still most advisable to have your car fixed in ways that will prepare it for the long haul, not just for the current stops and starts. Good luck!
