What reality looks like.

My weekend was great, so freaking busy, but great. I can't wait to tell you guys about it later. For now, I'm talking a little bit about reality (and what my home looked like a week ago).

There are many times where this insanely huge blog land can be the most encouraging thing in the world, it seems. Endless friends to encourage you, beautiful pictures to inspire you, and free recipes to hand out like hot cakes.

Except...sometimes (and entirely unintentionally), this blog world can be super discouraging. Mine and Caleb's little apartment isn't decked out to the nines, there are always blankets thrown around, always laundry to be done, and I'm ALWAYS cleaning it feels like.

If I'm being entirely honest right now, this is what my house looked like for 2 (maybe 3) days recently. Seriously, try not to vomit.

I'm not usually the person to leave such a mess around...I like tidiness, organization, you catch my drift. I guess I just got a rift of laziness the past few days. This may have been the most random post ever, but its here to remind you WE ALL HAVE TRASH. Most of the time, our pictures look perfect, but what our followers on Instagram don't see is the pile of laundry we had to move out of the way to get that perfect shot...the neon sports bra that is still sitting on the couch, the glass that has left a ring on your end table, and the crooked picture frame on the wall that you fixed right before the shot.

Our homes are not perfect. I think its important as bloggers to be REAL about what our lives look like sometimes, even when its ugly. Our apartment is nowhere CLOSE to looking worthy of a two page spread in Better Homes and Gardens, but you know what? It's MINE. It's mine and its my husband's, and its well lived in...and I love that.

{side note; once my lazy days went away, I cleaned this apartment top to bottom like it was my job. I can only stand clutter/trash for so long!}

  1. Preachin' to the choir, sister!! I'm a proud neat freak most of the time - everything is annoyingly tidy and my OCD lives in overdrive, but for the past few weeks I've had zero motivation and I definitely pulled the vacuum out this weekend for the first time since.... embarrassing. You're so right, no one is perfect and we all have our messes!! Messy to one person might be spic-n-span to another and that's the beauty of being human :)
    Love you, pretty!

  2. Hahaha. Yup, yup & yup!! I'm so guilty of throwing a vase full of flowers (usually fake) on top of that ring that a cup left on my table!! And so guilty of throwing stuff in a closet or a drawer to get that perfect picture. I love that you wrote this. THIS is real!!! =D

  3. So true... who do we all (bloggers) think we're kidding when we try and make things seem perfect all.the.time.?! So not reality! Great post!

  4. oh yes ma'am. it can get discouraging, but know that we ALL have our homes looking less than perfect more times than not. mine looks like a hurricane came through right now. and it's been like that for a few days now too!

  5. Love this post! It's so true. I think it's totally acceptable to have days of laziness. Sometimes lounging around is more important than that laundry or picking up the pile of "stuff" (in my case diaper bags and baby items) on the counter. :)

  6. I could do a post just like this! While I just have my room at Sarah and Ryan's to really clean up instead of the whole house, there's definitely times where there's been an explosion of clothes and just stuff! I can leave it for a few days but like you I can't leave it like that forever. Also, side note, can't wait to see your lived-in home in person!!! :) hehe.

  7. I love this post! You're so right!! Sometimes I don't bother to pick up my floor before I take mirror selfies. I figure if I'm going to treat you guys like my friends, you have the right to know the "real" me. Laundry waiting to be folded and all -- I'm not perfect! ;)

  8. I love real posts like this. I can almost guarantee that when Zach and I move in together our apartment is going to be a mess! My dear fiancé has all kinds of stuff I'm not sure where we're going to put it.

  9. Um, yepp.. that's about what my house looks like most days!! I'll go to the trouble of taking laundry out of an extra basket we have in our room, folding it so all Josh has to do is put it away, and then when he goes to bed, he puts it right back in the laundry basket. I want to scream, but hey, it's real life!

  10. That what everyone's homes look like this time of year. It's crazy...I usually like things tidy and neat, like you, but this past week or 2, I feel like I"m cleaning all the time, but my house is a mess!!

  11. I totally know what you mean. The cleaning never seems to stop around here. My life is a constant battle between feeling obsessive about cleaning, feeling lazy, and picking up after my darling boyfriend.

  12. I also tend to be a very neat person, but like you said, we ALL have trash. And right now the tablecloth on my dining room table is sliding generously to one side, totally off-centered...but I have yet to fix it, as picture un-perfect as it might be!

  13. I used to always have an issue with mess in my home. I am still in a constant state of decluttering. I told myself when I had Eisley it was going to be insane end of the day cleaning. Boy was I wrong. My house is consantly a mess hahaha. I have jumpers and play bats and bunkies and toys coming out of my eyes so don't feel bad! :)

  14. I love that you show you "live" in your house!!!! Dont we all wish for maybe one day we could have one of those fabulous magazine type houses? lol we all deserve a few days of laziness :)

I get crazy w the amount of toys on the playroom floor but it happens and Breanna is having fun and that is all that matters!!!!

  15. I love this post!!! Shows that you are actually a REAL person. I've been wanting to do a post like this for a long time! We get so wrapped up in being perfect, we forget that it's okay to be lazy one day. The world will NOT end!

  16. Love this! Our house looks like that a lot plus the Floyd hair all around. I can only handle the mess for so long but between Christmas and general craziness, ours has been a disaster zone lately.
